Adventure awaits in your own back yard. You just have to walk out the door and find it! During a recent visit to California, we did just that. I was honored to accompany my good friend Sera, the budding S’more Model, and her friends during one of their monthly traditions—a campfire on the sandy Huntington beach. Christmas is almost here, you’ve probably already been on the look out for the best gifts for Mom, Dad, brothers, sisters and countless friends. If you’re looking for useful, versatile and affordable gifts here are our top picks for 2015.
Hopefully this will steer you in the right direction for all your Christmas shopping for the adventurous explorers in your life.
The Rolla Roaster
$12.95-13.95 per set of 2
Of course our number one recommendation is the Rolla Roaster. It can be a great stocking stuffer as it is only 12” when compacted. This is the best camping fork out there for all your marshmallow roasting ventures and it is compact so its easy to travel with. The Rolla Roaster telescopes from 12-42 inches, it has a stainless steel fork, a wooden handle and knob for rotating the fork to make that perfect golden s’more. Theres a variety of 12 colors plus 3 new hydro-dipped camouflage options!
Eagle Creek Lync Luggage (Carry on size)

Now is the time to travel. My goal is to always pack as light as possible, however after you add in camera gear and clothes for any person who is used to weather in the northwest, it becomes difficult. Eagle creek bags are some of my favorite I’ve never been able to destroy one. That includes using it to haul other bags up to 50lbs that don’t have wheels. One time I ran it through the crazy streets of Bangkok just letting it roll up and down the curbs and sidewalks, train tracks… and it never broke.
The EC Lync is a new bag by Eagle Creek that is one of the most versatile bags I’ve seen. I always had a goal to invent a bag similar because its the ultimate transforming luggage. It’s only 4 pounds, the wheels and frame can come all the way off and it can collapse to such a small size. So whether it’s a city trip or a camping trip you’re always ready. Sometimes when I travel I can’t decide whether I want to take a roller or a backpack and in this you get both.
The Folding Fork is the perfect gift for a backpacker or anyone who loves to cook while out on the trail or have the coolest accessory at a backyard barbecue. This fork has the ability to multi task also. Lately I’ve thought using it as a selfie stick. With a little attachment it should work. I’ll post the best photos from that later, along with other uses we dream up while roasting a heavy duty meal over the campfire is the most important. What is so unique about this camping fork? As you can tell from the name, the fork folds so it is ultra compact and is the heavy duty version of the Rolla Roaster. It extends from 7.5-48 inches. When collapsed you can keep it on your belt in the custom pouch with a belt loop that comes with it. This makes it a great gift not only for backpackers but for anyone who likes bon fires or beach campfires, we always used them during snowmobile trips when the fire pit was down in the snow. It comes in the original black color, but this month we are introducing the 3 new hydro-dipped colored handles in varieties of camouflage. A gift for hunters or anyone who likes to shop at Cabbalas where it’s all things camo.
Go Pro Hero 4 (Silver or Black)

Go pro. Enough said. I can’t believe how amazing this little camera is. This would even be a great gift for your kids. It is invincible! As long as it’s in the housing. In this model of GoPro they’ve improved the sound recording so it gets great sound when it is outside the housing. Inside the housing you can go underwater down to For beginners the Go Pro Hero 3 or lower would be a good starter camera if you’re looking for a more affordable camera. For professionals the Hero 4 Black its a deal, and it can record in 4K as well as many other high definition settings.
If every item listed here was something you could put in a kit for survival living the life outdoors this would wrap it all up. A hammock!
I’ve had my eno hammock 3 years now. We used to hang them up in trees on our campus, not recommended by Eno, but I’m just saying this because I trust that it won’t split open and I’ve tested this. One time I hung my hammock over a waterfall, that was a little more risky, but it was fun!
It’s the season for unique gifts! Three new hydrographic colors in both Folding Fork and the original Rolla Roaster. The wooden handles are hydro dipped to give more unique color options to all who are looking for the perfect gift for friends and family.
The first is the camouflage color this would be great gift for any of your hunter friends especially if they want the challenge of setting down their camping fork in the woods and having to find it. I guess it would be best used in snow. This would be the perfect gift for anyone who ever loves camo. That family member whose favorite store is REI or Cabbalas, this is what would be best for them. Camouflage is the style now, and always has been in Idaho, join the trend!
Then we have the new “Muddy Girl” color for all those girls (and guys) who like the pink camouflage. It’s not as easy to lose as the regular camouflage camping fork with the pink highlights. I think this was invented for those outdoorsy girls who like to look stylish with whatever outdoor activity they are doing. I can just see this being perfect for my friend who loves to ski in the backcountry. She could just take a break, start a campfire, have some lunch and then continue on.
And for all those Star Wars fans out there. The new Digital Camouflage colors reminds me of Star Wars and could fit in as part of the series. Maybe a new and improved version of the lightsaber. Maybe don’t go skiing with this one you might leave it in the snow and never see it again because it could blend right in!
For a limited time, from now until Christmas, we are offering free shipping if you buy 2 or more Camouflage Folding Forks.
When we think of the most unique holiday traditions we have, Halloween is one of the strangest. Think about it! One day a year we dress up in costumes, walk around all day like that, go to our neighbors houses asking for candy. We go into haunted houses and look forward to being scared.
Sometimes I want to see what would happen if we did this on any other day of the year and see how people would react.
This year if you need some ideas of how to spend the time, here you go.
1. Have a Campfire
Of course this will be our first recommendation, never miss an opportunity for campfires. You don’t have to be camping. Thankfully this autumn season has had a few warmer days throughout October. Make some s’mores, then when your neighbors and strangers come to your house they can just come join you around the fire. Then you can offer them marshmallows covered with various kinds of candy that everyone brings in from their trick or treat adventures. Roast some marshmallows and make traditional s’mores and whatever other creative food inventions you can dream up. For those of you in cities, you probably can’t have a fire in your front yard and definitely not in your apartment so just go to one of those fancy rooftop restaurants that has a fire pit. Those are amazing!
2.Play Capture the Flag
Since everyone is out acting crazy anyways, playing a ridiculous game would be fun for kids and adults. Whether you’re in cities, neighborhoods or farm fields this would be a great way to run off that energy from all the sugar.
3. Enter a Costume Contest
At some places they do costume contests where you can win money or prizes. One time I was walking with some friends (as Avatar, Ironman, Cleopatra, Lady Gaga) though a mall and one of the managers of a bar asked us to come in and enter the contest. Sure enough our good friend “Ironman” won a prize of $200. He had made his costume out of toys and moped parts, so who knows you could earn money back.
4. Go to Waikiki (or other boardwalks in cities)
I know that place might seem random. I am just using this city as an example since its one that I’ve seen in action. You’ll probably see the most beautiful chaos in the streets of the cities. Don’t go out too late, but in small doses it can be a very interesting experience to see everyones costumes.
5. Haunted Hay Rides and Carnivals
Community events can be a fun way to spend the evening. There are corn mazes, carnivals with face painting and games for the kids, and haunted hayrides where you might be able to see zombies come out of the woods and perform their version of “thriller,” if you’re lucky. Look up your local state park as they might be holding some events both at night and during the day.
6. Drink coffee (or tea)
For adults this caffeine essential. What other way are you going to keep up with all those sugar crazed kids, even if you don’t have kids just drink caffeine because you can. If you want to just spend some time at home with a small group of friends, learn to make a pumpkin spice latte and a chai tea latte from pinterest. Spend the time catching up with friends and playing games at home.
7. Don’t watch a scary movie
Go outside. Play a game. There are so many things you could be doing instead. It will be a much more memorable and you’ll be able to sleep at night.
8. Carve pumpkins
You can carve pumpkins in traditional style or you can find alternative ways, like in Idaho this is sometimes what we do, (see the image below).
Whatever you decide to do we hope you have a great and safe Halloween holiday this year.
Here is the color line up of Rolla Roasters. We are still running a sale which allows you to mix and match colors. This is a great way to do some early Christmas shopping and find some great affordable gifts that are able to be customized for your friends and family.
Winter has come, theres that crisp feeling under our feet as we walk to trails and streets filled with snow instead of leaves, or really soggy leaves. That is if you are in the Northern part of the world, or way South for those of you Downunder. If you’re somewhere tropical, just enjoy that you can still be outside like it’s summer again and that the ocean is near, yes I’m talking to you Hawaii.
We have so much to be thankful for and so much to look forward to. We hope that enjoying time with family and friends is extra special this year and if you happen to have time around a winter campfire, just relax, roast some marshmallows and enjoy the warmth of the fire and laughter while telling stories with everyone around. Unplug for awhile and just get back to the basics.
As the seasons change from the autumn leaves to snow covered branches. We look forward to celebrating the holidays with family and friends. If you’re looking for the perfect holiday gift for anyone, looking ahead to spending those warm summer days out roasting marshmallows at the campfire, under the stars. You don’t even have to wait until summer, you can just sit in your chair and extend the rolla roaster antenna and roast marshmallows and make s’mores over the cozy fireplace inside. I haven’t tried that yet, but it sounds like fun. Using any excuse to spend quality time with family and friends while everyone is together, telling stories and laughing together, talking about plans for the year ahead. The rolla roaster is a great for every occasion and makes a very unique Christmas gift for anyone who loves the outdoors and camping.
