The first is the camouflage color this would be great gift for any of your hunter friends especially if they want the challenge of setting down their camping fork in the woods and having to find it. I guess it would be best used in snow. This would be the perfect gift for anyone who ever loves camo. That family member whose favorite store is REI or Cabbalas, this is what would be best for them.  Camouflage is the style now, and always has been in Idaho, join the trend!

Then we have the new “Muddy Girl” color for all those girls (and guys) who like the pink camouflage. It’s not as easy to lose as the regular camouflage camping fork with the pink highlights. I think this was invented for those outdoorsy girls who like to look stylish with whatever outdoor activity they are doing. I can just see this being perfect for my friend who loves to ski in the backcountry. She could just take a break, start a campfire, have some lunch and then continue on.

And for all those Star Wars fans out there. The new Digital Camouflage colors reminds me of Star Wars and could fit in as part of the series. Maybe a new and improved version of the lightsaber.  Maybe don’t go skiing with this one you might leave it in the snow and never see it again because it could blend right in!

The original marshmallow toasting fork makes for the ultimate fun camp cooking experience. The stainless steel fork is easy to clean, has a safe vinyl storage case, and extends up to 42 inches for easy cooking. But even the best camping trip can be ruined by getting tick bites. The best way to avoid the bloodsuckers is to stay out of brushy areas and to wear full covering clothing (long sleeve shirt tucked into pants tucked into boots). While DEET and permethrin have been shown to reduce the incidence tick bites, rose geranium oil offers an natural method to repel ticks. Mix 2 Tbs almond oil with 10-25 drops of rose geranium essential oil and dab on skin and clothes. (Dab some of the herbal repellant on the back of your dog’s neck to help keep the ticks away). Check out this Care2 article for more information on how to prevent tick bites on your family and your pets. For more information on your local buggers go to Tick Identification 101- Backpacker Magazine.

Camping Packing and Cooking Tips for Newbies

Prepared hiker with her Rolla Roaster and dog.

Prepared hiker with her Rolla Roaster and dog.Going out on a camping trip for the first time this year? Or are you taking a camping newbie with you?

We support your being prepared and safe, so along with packing your original marshmallow toasting fork make sure to pack the other essentials- rope, warm clothes, extra food, etc. Always check trail conditions and weather before your departure and notify friends, family, or the trail managers of your plans. Packing will be easier if you know what is required for the trail, like bear canisters, and what is allowed in the area, such as lighting fires or gathering firewood. And if you’re planning any sort of hiking beyond trails of the nature walk variety make sure to have proper maps. The United States Geological Survey has topographical maps at Map Locator.

We suggest Backpacker magazine which recently featured articles focused on preparing for someone’s first camping trip. Check them out at First Night Out which explains packing, cooking, and more.

And remember, don’t forget your top-of-the-line marshmallow toasting fork and barbeque fork. Our customers rate the Rolla Roaster very highly. Check it out this recent feedback from customer Tom Olsen about the Folding Camping Fork...

“I was looking for the ultimate campfire marshmallow roaster and this is it. It is very well made, has a very long extension and packs up small. Look no further, this is it.”
